The UK’s Leading Orthopaedic Shockwave Clinic

ABOUT NESA

NESA® (Neuromodulation Applied Surface) is a breakthrough medical technology that was originally developed in Japan in the 1970s. It emerged from pioneering work by a group of Japanese doctors who sought to understand and influence human bioelectrical behavior. Their aim was to develop a method of neuromodulating the autonomic nervous system – offering a new approach in the treatment of various medical conditions.

Over two decades of meticulous research, these physicians studied superficial microcurrents and their interactions with peripheral nerves. They tracked the polarity, direction, frequency, and intensity of each electrical impulse, carefully mapping how the body responds to external bioelectrical stimuli.

This rigorous scientific process led to significant discoveries in the 1980s. The team developed a method using 24 precisely positioned surface electrodes to deliver treatment without damaging tissue or provoking adverse reactions. This innovation became known as NESA – a non-invasive, gentle, and scientifically grounded form of neuromodulation.

The treatment is not only safe and comfortable, but it also helps to support the body’s natural ability to regulate the autonomic nervous system. There is no inflammation, pain, or downtime involved – just a carefully calibrated electrical approach that aims to restore balance and stability within the nervous system.

At Shockwave Clinics, we are proud to be among the few clinics in the UK trained and certified to offer this advanced therapy. NESA represents a significant step forward in contemporary medicine, blending decades of research with today’s standards of care.
