For Medical Professionals

SCIENTIFIC BACKGROUND

Since the 1990’s when the modern generation of shockwave equipment was first used on patients, the positive effects of extracorporeal shockwave therapy on a substantial number of painful conditions have become more widely appreciated by the medical profession.  More recently it has been discovered that shockwave therapy doesn’t just help with the healing of heel and shoulder pain, tennis elbow and other conditions but that it shows a stimulating and therapeutic effect on cell membranes and tissue healing

SUBSTANCE P

Substance P is an immediate defence, stress, repair, survival system. The release of substance P by shockwaves has a pain-relieving effect, while simultaneously dilating the blood vessels, stimulating blood circulation and helping with the formation of new bone tissue. Furthermore, a major chemical effect of shockwave therapy appears to be rapid elevation of nitric oxide (NO) which has a vasodilatory effect and plays an important role in angiogenesis, increases in blood circulation and the repair process.

INHIBITION of the COX II ENZYME

It has also been discovered that by inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as COX II, shockwave produces an anti-inflammatory effect that reduces any inflammatory process.

ACTIVATING CELLULAR DEFENCES

By contributing to the release of free radicals, shockwaves assist in the strengthening of the body’s endogenous cellular defense mechanisms and protects it from disease.

HYPERSTIMULATES NERVE FIBRES

Additionally, scientific studies show that shockwaves act in another way. Over dstimulating the nerve fibres blocks an increase in pain stimuli and therefore intensifies the analgesic effect (Gate Control Theory).

SUPPORT & GUIDANCE

For several years I have used shockwave in my medical practice to overcome a number of painful conditions for clients which could not be overcome with physiotherapy alone. I have helped hundreds of patients overcome long standing problems that have troubled them for many years without relief. I have tried many types of shockwave equipment with varying degrees of success and along the way acquired a deep knowledge of what does and doesn’t work.

After much testing, today I use exclusively Swiss engineered shockwave equipment, the STORZ DUOLITH® SD1. This provides ultra-focused shock wave therapy, superior to radial shockwave used by many other practitioners. It produces outstanding results.
